Asheville-based telehealth counseling serving North Carolina
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic method for helping people heal from troubling life experiences. It’s not uncommon to feel like there’s a block in the way of being able to move past a difficult past experience, keeping you stuck and unable to heal the wound. EMDR taps your natural tendency and ability to heal from psychological and emotional wounds, remove blocks, and restore your sense of safety and balance. If you have further questions about what EMDR is, how it is understood to work, and what issues it can be used to address, please contact me for more information.
I am providing EMDR across telehealth.
You know what it feels like … nervous energy, racing thoughts, shallow breathing, a pounding heart. There’s an ongoing set of questions in your mind of What If …? The more you tell yourself that everything’s okay, the more you spiral and the feedback loop gets louder. Maybe you spin and spin or maybe you get overwhelmed, feel stunned, and shutdown. Let’s help you learn to work with those feelings, learn to calm down, and manage the racing thoughts.
Have you worried about your alcohol and drug use being a problem? Has anyone ever commented on it as if it is? Using is like other relationships we have – some can support us in positive ways while others continue to cost us more and more. Let’s talk it through and see if your relationship with drugs and alcohol is costing you more than its worth.
Feelings drained, unmotivated, and struggling with doing the simplest of things day to day? A lot of times there’s the ongoing question of What’s the Point? on replay in your mind. Depression literally drains your energy and sucks the life out of you. It’s often due to unprocessed experiences from your past that simply feel overwhelming. Think of it like a garage you in which you keep stacking box after box after box into until you can only open the door, look in and see too much to deal with. Let’s unpack the past safely and move into a lighter future.
It’s easy to look around at others and feel like I’m not worth what they are because ____ . Does any of this sound familiar? I’m only worth what my family or partner tells me I am. I’m only worth what my job pays me. I don’t have enough friends. I’m only worth what the world says I am. What do you think you’re worth? What would you like to have in your life? Let’s explore who you really are and help you create the life you’re worth.
The most important relationship we have is with our selves. Working on improving our relationship with our selves improves our relationships with others, even when others in our lives are not doing their own work. Self work can be a challenge because we’re the only ones responsible for our own stuff. It’s worth it to do the work. Let’s help you to care for and support yourself in a loving way and build the kinds of relationships with others you truly want.
Change is a constant state of affairs. Transitions such as moving to a new home, changing jobs or careers, building new relationships or others coming to a close are all emotionally challenging. A lot of times we feel a sense of loss at the start of a major transition before we recognize the space opening up for something new and often more fulfilling. Having support through the transition process can help you stay calm, engaged, and focused on the opportunities opening up for living a happier, more satisfying life. Let’s work together to help you thrive through a tough transition.
