Andrew N Burdette

Who I Am

I’m Andrew Burdette, professional counselor and substance abuse professional, partner, friend, family member, fly fisher, film nerd, audio and music buff.

I came to counseling first as someone wanting to be free of feeling terrified of my own emotions, feeling anxious and inept about a lot of things in life. As a client of therapy, I have had good and bad experiences with therapists. Client – Therapist “fit” matters as much or more than whatever training or degrees a therapist may have.

I work well with clients challenged by anxiety, depression, substance use, overwhelming life transitions, relationship health and quality, or self-esteem because at different points, I have had to face these challenges myself. My education and training has put a lot of tools into my toolbox . My lived experience with these challenges, and own work with therapists in the past, has taught me how to trust and wisely use these tools in living day in and day out.

My Approach

My work centers on helping you develop practical mindfulness that fits into the flow of your everyday life. There is power in being able to tune in moment to moment and get a “status update” on what’s happening inside. It doesn’t require sitting in silent meditation to tune in, sense what’s happening, and empower your decision making process with insight. The power lies in hearing what your senses, thoughts, and feelings have to tell you so when you make a choice and take action it aligns with your true self.

Our work will use mindfulness techniques to increase your ability to tune in and sense what’s going on regardless of the situation. I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral styles (CBT, REBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) with clients. Eye

Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is another helpful tool in healing from particularly charged negative thoughts or troubling past experiences.

As we are all unique, my approach and skills will be tailored to fit your needs and strengths as we work with one another..
